Germany’s U21 side settled for a 1-1 draw with Spain in their international friendly. Johannes Eggestein once again captained the side as they took on the current U21 European Champions. While Benjamin Goller was also awarded an appearance, Milot Rashica and Marco Friedl were unused substitutes. A look at Thursday’s internationals:

In the repeat of the final of last season’s U21 European Championships, Spain took an early lead through Manu Garcia in the 10th minute. However, Johannes Eggestein and his team managed to grab the equaliser before half time, with Nico Schlotterbeck netting in the 32nd minute. Both teams came out for the second half having made a number of changes but failed to score a winner. Despite making multiple substitutions, Johannes Eggestein played the full 90 minutes.

Benjamin Goller also earned an appearance for his country. The attacker was subbed on in the 62nd minute for Germany’s U20 side in their friendly against Poland. Manuel Baum’s side fell to a 4-3 defeat, conceding in the last minute of the game. They now look forward to their next friendly game against Switzerland on Sunday.

Austria picked up an important victory in their bid for qualification for the 2020 EUROs, picking up a 3-1 win over Israel. They now sit in second place in qualifying group G. Marco Friedl, who was called-up to the senior squad for the first time, could only make the bench. The same goes for Milot Rashica. Werder’s number seven was an unused substitute in Kosovo’s 1-0 friendly win against Gibraltar.
